Based out of Port Hadlock, WA the Community Boat Project provides hands-on, meaningful, organic, learning experiences. We partner teens with high-capacity adult mentors in unique programs that focus on real work, critical thinking, and human-social skills toward the goal of creating skilled and empathetic adults for our region. It is a gathering place where people find joy in working together.

    Our Mission:

To provide youth with life skills through mentorship, hands-on education, and building projects.

Our Vision:

Skilled and confident youth engaged in their community.

The Community Boat Project thrives through the grassroot partnership of Puget Sound Voyaging Society with 4-H/WSU, the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, School Districts of Chimacum, Port Townsend, and Quilcene, and other like minded organizations such as WorkSource, Youth Probation, and Bayside Housing.

Our programs are always free and accredited.

Voyaging is our innovative maritime skills education program. Our on-the-water programs are in rowing/sailing vessels 24’ – 35’ and can span anything from an afternoon to 5 days long or more.

Philosophy and Principles:

101_0876Social Justice: We believe quality educational opportunities should be available to all.

Therefore all our programs are free to public school youth or sliding scale that matches the needs of any group. Our programs are open to all people regardless of age, race, economic status, or sexual orientation.

cbp 041113 (10)Community Supported Education: We believe that education should be community driven. The Local Community drives what is important to learn.

Our programs are funded by donations of materials and money from the community. We run on 100% volunteer expertise and energy.DSCF9836a

Experiential Learning: Learning is best done through hands-on, real, meaningful experiences.

Environmental Sustainability and Sensitivity: In all our actions we consider the environmental implications, and then make our best choice for minimum impact.CBP_022
